Totally awesome. I love it.
1911 even, that's the year I'm collecting, even better.
Thanks for sharing that, makes my night.

Popout coins are a neat thing to find. Especially as cufflinks. :-)
The mass-produced ones were made by hammering them into a mold. The only thing you need to look out for, though, is if they're cast copies (which is common).

They generally don't. They were popular in Europe and the States, and making castings was easier than carving them over again.

Fyi... all four are definitely NOT cast but original Barber coins. Both pop outs are 1911, one backing looks like 1908 & the others date was completely cropped. And I do not think they were banged over a mold... too many minute differences that could only be caused by hand tooling imo

Yeh, pop-out coins is in the same category as hobo-nickels or love tokens and are collected as art-forms. I think these are not treated the same as coins people collect.

Very true buddy however, coin collectors while they would never do such a thing to a coin are the largest demographic of buyers for this type of thing... case in point, read one50's response. And I wear a civil war era $1 gold piece love token necklace & have an 1881 morgan money clip (my birth year plus 100)

The pop out coins are made from dies and are not hammered out
