Thank you everyone. I have been a lurker over here, mainly in the photography area studying up a bit. I'm thrilled that this could be my first post here. I am an active member over at cointalk.

Nice find jtlee321,

Yours even had a die break by the wing tip, would be a real find if this one was in AU - MS grade.

I wish it was in higher condition. But I will be on the lookout for anymore, regardless of the condition. This is such an interesting and fun discovery.

@Cascade

No the dealer did not know. It was in a binder with 3 other 1919 dimes. I handed him the coin in the 2x2 and asked him how much he wanted. He gave me a price and I paid it.

"No the dealer did not know. It was in a binder with 3 other 1919 dimes. I handed him the coin in the 2x2 and asked him how much he wanted. He gave me a price and I paid it." That's what I do when I find a coin I'm interested in. Let the dealer name his price. Sometimes, like the below coin, I didn't have to ask how much. Great find!

Just a quick update - we are up to 7 confirmed known specimens.

1) ANACS VF-20 - Discovery piece (StrikeOutXXX / Jeff Sam)
2) NCS AU Details - Environmental Problems - Confirmation piece - Own inventory - John Hodson
3) PCGS VG-8 unattributed, then ANACS VG-8, back to PCGS VG-8 Attributed - Bulk over the counter B&M Purchase (KearneyCC / Bjorn Bergstrom)
4) ANACS EF-40 small show Portland, OR (Dealer folder unattributed) - (jtlee321/Justin)
5) NGC - Good - Owner Unknown
6) NGC - Good - Owner Unknown
7) NGC - Good - Owner Unknown

Justin's (#4) was examined by James Wiles (CONECA) who annotated it as a Middle Die State, so we know the die didn't get pulled right away at least, it may have had a normal run.

The owners of the first 4 are all on the various message boards or reported through the message boards - NGC released their population report last week with the 3 Goods on them, I'm unsure who owns them, but their variety specialist confirmed they were 3 different examples.

Still no public sales to judge desirability or pricing structure, although I believe the VG-8 example will be up for sale as soon as he gets it back from PCGS - not sure where though.

The DDO for sure will be in the next Cherrypicker's Guide. It's "Looking Good" to be included in the RedBook, and there is a high probability it will be included in the registry sets at PCGS/NGC, all of which will help this mature into a mainstream variety.

Love to hear any stories of finds or searches of others.

Jeff

My guess is maybe 2,000 in G-04. I don't know, you can't exactly determine that that easily because there really hasn't been any sold on the market; at least I don't think?!

Tip #4: Could this nickel be worth a lot? I don't know yet, but I only paid $10. I felt I could not go wrong.
