I am putting my ASE proofs in my safety deposit box today, and because of space constraints, I've removed the capsules from the OGP. I then put them in a sandwich bag. Is this okay?

That's how I store my commemoratives and so far so good.
I use heavy duty food-grade, inert plastic quart-size bags.

A sandwich bag is made of LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene). This type of plastic is not harmful to your coins. However, over a low period of time I would choose a better storage method and maybe opt for a larger box.

They should be fine. I have notes and coins tucked in my drawer for nearly a decade (before I was a collector) and they are okay. And you don't know what they put in some Indonesian "food-safe" plastic bags (you'll learn the difference just by looking at the plastic if you lived there, though)

It's a storage tool I recommend for every coin you look at less than once a week.

Ziploc food storage bags are great. The plastic is safe and you can put some silica gel inside the bag and create a nice little micro climate. the gel dries out the small amount of air inside the bage and the plastic and zip seal keep any more moisture from getting in. Seal up like that you probably won't have to recharge the gel for a decade. (as long as you don't open the bag.)

Good to know! I've always wanted to find out definitively if Ziplocs are safe.
Where do you guys get your silica gel? I don't need a lot, so I usually just get them from clothes and such. Any suggestions?
