Question for the collectors in OZ!

Is there a bulk rate on any of the pennys half pennys or one cent coins?

I am involved in the Australian Festival
www.australianfestival.comand I was thinking of giving out coins
1 each to the kids -
I just don't know what the cost would be to get these in bulk

or if you think it is a good idea

Please let me know your thoughts.

I guess that really depends on just how many coins you want to get hold of. I know Downies does bulk lots of both Pennies and Half Pennies. Runs $11.75 for a half kilo right now, or $18.00 for a kilo.

Or, maybe all of us Numis-Aussie-philes with spare coins could mail a dozen or to you, for nothing at all.

G'day, an interesting idea.
Taking Bigfella's figure of AUD $20/kg -
a standard penny weighed about 9.45g;
so you'd get a hunfred plus one or two for $20;
plus freight;
so your cost per coin is $0.20 each, plus freight.
On the positive side, the pennies of KG6 & QE2 have the highly recognizable kangaroo; and the coins are of a size, 30mm, that is visually impressive to a child.

An alternative might be current decimal coins, which are available at face value, and it would be easy to get "shiny" new coins. Thedown side is that the animals on the 5, 10, & 20-cent coins are, I expect, not readily recognizable; and the smaller coins are quite small.
Freight is still a factor, of course.

Current air mail to the USA is $13.90/half kilo, $24.70/kilo.
I have about 1.5/2 kilo that your welcome to but I cannot afford the freight.

All good ideas

so far I have had to use Downies- I spoke with Shane and if he sends them the freight would be $20

Although I prefer to do business with Newcastle Coins,

Downies will ship me a kilo of pennys and a half kilo of half pennies for $8

since I won't have the time or in interest in searching these as I will give them away to the kids who attend
The Australian Festival

I went with the cheap route.

Rest in Peace

Congrats' Richard, you found an apt result, don't feel that you have offended anyone.
Did you ever sort out the pennies that I sent and get the extras?

Yes I was able to retrieve those last night - the meeting place is locked up all week an only available on Tuesday nights.

so last night I went to the meeting an staked a claim to those coins.

Thank you for your generosity to the boys and myself

Richard
