This is a PCGS VF-25 1914-D Lincoln. It's advertised "LT. BRN., CLEAN SURFACE, FULL WHEAT STALKS, NO SPOTS" They were asking $500 for it, and I negotiated $485 with free shipping. These are the same people who sold me the S-VDB, and they seem straight. I asked if there are any blemishes not seen in the scan, and she told me after close examination she found only one. A tiny spot below the O in "Of America". I didn't notice it before but it is visible in the scan. I can live with that one tiny spot, especially on a VF coin. It otherwise looks nicer than most VF 1914-D's to me. I think the price isn't a steal, but it's fair. But as usual, on a major purchase I'd like to consult the Coin Gods (you guys!). Here's the scans.

I am no Lincoln Expert but I think you got a reasonable price on the coin.

Just out of curiousity is that reverse rotated or just the way the photo was taken? Not a big thing but if you put your coins in albums, it sure looks lousy to turn the page and see the reverses turned all different ways. As to that coin itself. I kind of like it. As you noted it does appear much better than an F-12 or VF-20. But that lousy scan makes it tuff to tell. Reverse Wheat looks great also. A bit pricy but you have to remember with 1,193,000 minted and soon a massive influx of new collectors with the coming of the 2009 cent, you may never see one like it again. Imagine there are estimated 20,000,000 or more coin collectors in the USA today and mostly cent collectors. Unless they start remaking the 14D, you would have one original.

Coin Prices (Krause) VF-20: $440 XF-40: $800 Coin Values ( Coin World) VF-20: $500 XF-40: $900 NumisMedia (online) VF-20: $444 XF-40: $740 $485 for a VF-25 in a PCGS holder sounds good! (hope you don't mind the input from a mere Coin-God-Wannabee)

That is a good coin, beside that spot, it's seemed like a problem free coin.
Like I noted in another topic about an offer I got at the Long Beach coin show. The 1914D was a raw coin with some corrosion spot on Lincoln shoulder - the dealer wanted $390 for the coin, but after I showed to him those spot, he lowered to $350. I did not buy it because I don't think it will get a body bag for TGP.

I'm not sure what the value is, but since the 1914D is such a popular key coin, and the fact that it's slabbed by PCGS makes your purchase a rock solid investment for decades to come. I'm jealous!

the price is fair for the coin from a dealer, however from your comments you probably be better off saving up a little and for around $900 buying a PCGS XF
