1955-D Die Break On Date

Going through my 1955-D rolls I found an interesting die crack/break going through the date. Looking in Cohen I see it is probably a later stage of 55D-D11 in the Misc Errors on Date section. Here it is:

Not only is that an sweet die crack, that picture is equally awesome.

Why doesn't the crack telegraph through the "5" though?

@CelticKnot,because the Die Crack was not strong where the impression of the 5 is. But a very close shot of the 5 would be the only way to know if that is right for sure. For the crack to show its self thur the 5 would depend on how deep the crack was when this coin was struck.

It sort of does snake along the vertical, and makes a level change as it goes through the curve. I'd need to show it at higher magnification to see it more clearly, but here is a sideways rendering that shows the level differences between the two sides of the break. You can see this level difference also on the lower curve.
