I've always had trouble distinguishing between these two types. Below are three separate 1922 5c. (no trickery - all are three diff. 1922 5c). Please give me your opinions which is a Far rim and Near rim. Thanks! Coin1: Coin2; Coin3:

Thanks everyone for the help.
It looks like near, far, far.
Actually, I was quite sure about the first and third one, but coin #2 'in-hand' looks more like something in-between a near rim and a far rim.
Better for me the consensus is a far rim.

Looks like three 1922 nickels from different reverse dies.

I notice that the collar on the last 2 are vastly different and I was also quite unsure of the middle photo.
That mid photo has a larger flatter or more square rim when compared to the bottom photo. Thanks Mike..

Good point Devlec!
Coin #2's rim looks like the 'near rim' coin, yet coin #2's spacing looks more like a 'far rim'.
A very good explanation why there is some confusion about coin #2.

A small variance in die alignment does make the rims look different because they slightly are. The gap will remain constant but the rim is actually smaller on that show side. I have multiple MS examples of near and far with differing rim thicknesses which can cause that appearance. I will see if I can dig them out of the snow and image them. MM
