Custom "Double Penny" Set Finish Question

This didn't get any response from the NCLT section, it may be more fitting in this section.
I'm hoping someone will be able to shed some educated light on this subject for me. The Charlton catalog used to list the finish of the Custom (double penny) sets as Specimen but have since changed it to proof like or MS-NC or whatever the flavour of the month is for the name of this finish...
All I'd like to know is are these coins of the same Specimen finish as their Prestige (double dollar) set counterparts or are they of the same finish as their standard prooflike counterparts.
The reason I'm asking is that it would be nice to have another option to get a hold of Specimen coins from 71, 72 and 73 that don't have any residue on them from the horrible red holder the early prestige sets came in.
