Quote: According to the mint's site, the antiquing and enamelling were applied by hand. Yes it was but the enameled silver coin and the gold coin had a different "strike" in order for them to be able to put on the enameling properly. Or at least this is what it looks like to me.

Oh, okay that sounds reasonable. I will have to take a close look at mine when they arrive. They still have not shipped from the mint yet.

Ya YY I would definitively get another set, thats just nasty, I had a similar problem with the Gold Allegory I bought from the mint, it had the "frosting" dribbled on the proof area of the coin, returned it for perfect one, well as perfect as a RCM "frosted" coin can be.

Quote:Will be happy, if RCM will issue something similar relatively rarely, let's say coin per year or set in couple of years - in order not to overwhelm and destroy nice theme. I could handle 2 of these types of sets per year but no more. They should do another theme for sure , I think the Moon Masks have run their course , maybe bring them back in a few years. I wouldn't mind a set of Canadian flags, one enameled , antiqued and proof in the same 3000 low mintage type set but they really need to add a plaque either on the lid or on the inside of the lid to spruce it up a bit from the plain Jane wooden box although its nice , it could be much better with a nice colored /antiqued or some such plaque.

Great set, Lostwords! (I meant, nice that there are no imperfections) Quote: I like the case but the coins can only lay down (the way it display in the picture). It would be nice if the coins can be put in upright position like coins in the clamshell c ASE Try to use clear easels, by putting them into the coin slots (they have to fit), and that way to place coins "standing" for display only. Btw, did you put attention, that it expected to be popular in Europe? (dealer from Germany ordered 30+ sets) People there like this stuff, specially in the North.

I just started reading this thread and have a few things to say. 1) these coins REALLY do look even better in person 2) anyone that thinks these coin are not worth the money, simply don't buy them. Sure, the price is steep, but for 3 coins in a wooden box, it still seems like a steal to me since I spent $300 ($150 each) for the grandmother and matriarch moon mask coins. 3) the mintage is only 3000. (Feel free to get ticked off that this has been mentioned many times) 4) this set , IMO, is the nicest I've seen from the RCM since I started collecting coins. 5) love them or hate them, flippers make no difference to me. I buy only from the RCM, brick and mortar shops, and as a last resort, dealers online that have locations out of my area. I never buy from ebay, kijiji, etc. I get enough of an advanced notice on new releases, that I either pull the trigger and buy when I get emailed from my rep at the RCM or I go to a credible dealer. With the insane number of coins being released by the RCM in the last couple of years, flippers will slowly disappear unless they have VERY deep pockets or are buying coins with a "keep them unless someone offers more than issue price" attitude. 6) I'd bet my set that they sell out. If they don't, all the better. 7) the antique finish is my favourite of the 3, followed by the enamelled. 8) buy what you like, not what will increase in value. If all coins went up in price, everyone would be buying them. Expect to lose money.

Well said Red; The antique finish really pushes up the high relief...very 3d-ish...and the most intense of the three masks... Gotta get another couple to gift out...great looking stuff.

If anyone knows how to upload pictures using an iPhone 4, I'd be more than happy to add some pics.

I agree with those that believe the set will sell out. It may take a little time, but it seems very likely that "Sold Out" will be added to its RCM web site listing within a month (if the current sales pace is maintained). The set remains available at issue price from multiple dealers, so sales are likely being driven by individual collectors. A true "collector's set." From the images posted, it appears to be an attractive set. It's good to read that folks who purchased it are generally happy with it. (yingyang - Hope your replacement set is a keeper!). It's not my "thing," however, so I'll be passing on it - one more available for a true fan!
