Hi, I'm from California, I found site by searching for info on 8 reales pillar dollar and stumbled on the discussion in "1746 Mo 8 reales Pillar dollar (accidental purchase)Help!". I recently learned of this coin and want one. I found the comments by swamperbob and jfransch to be very helpful and figured I better start the long process of educating myself and join a forum for advice and discussions. I bid $180 on the uploaded picture in ebay. I asked the seller if he could send me a pict of the edge and size and weight. He sent me edge pict and size which checked out(according to my limited knowledge), then I found listing was canceled. I asked him what happened , he said he took coin to a coin dealer and was informed, "...it was underweight, lettering showed signs of casting and condition overall did not match the edge which was way more worn than rest of coin". I thanked him for his honesty and cried a little since it was such an eye appealing coin and had such nice tone. I now realize finding a similar quality authentic coin will to say the least be very challenging.

Hello. I'm Albee from Canada. I am always watching for odd coins, or odd places to find them. Years ago, I was standing near a basement being dug when the crawler pushed a large block of mud out and over the top, which rolled down the hill and broke in half, exposing a 1923 Mercury dime exposed flat in the center. It was probably from 6 to 7 feet underground. After that I was hooked.

Hi I'm currently residing in Alpena Michigan. I guess I've been collecting coins since the 1980's. And have inherited a few Franklin half dollars and a couple 1964 Kennedy silver half Dollars from my grandmother.
