I have a feeling that will be hard to recover, especially in flips like that and not slabbed. There is zero motivation to keep them in those flips and can just sell them a few at a time far away.

Guarantee they are already ripped out of those 2x2's.

If I'm a full time dealer doing shows all the time, I'm having cameras set up recording.

God knows what these criminals have done to these coins. Probably over dipped them in ketchup or something. :(

Security cameras are getting cheap enough now that I would hope that all dealers are considering this. Also would be good to set up cameras in/on transport vehicles since it seems like a lot of thefts occur while in transit.

I was at a coin show a few weeks ago and a dealer had just realized that someone had stolen his 1861 Double Eagle. Security was called, and there was really nothing they could do. I was surprised that the building didn't have any security cameras, but agree that any dealer with high end items should set up a couple. They really aren't expensive these days.

In any case, I hope that somehow they find the crook and get the coins back to the dealer.

I agree. Whether or not they are hooked up, they will make the sticky fingers hesitant.

My son bought a GoPro to mount to his helmut, to record his snowboarding adventures. It cost him @$200. Small investment to protect $75,000 worth of coins.

But of course hindsight is 20-20. The lowlife that exists in society never ceases to amaze me. Hope he gets caught, so some judge can listen to his sob story and sentence him to probation and bar him from attending any coin shows for at least 2 years.

Every dealer should have some traceable stock. Take my avatar for example. It's a virtually unique piece. Coins in slabs can be cracked out. Most paper money has some identifying serial numbers or other distinguishing info thereupon. It's suspected that one of the reasons early silversmiths, goldsmiths, jewelers and the like counterstamped some coins among their stock is that it would make a thief's booty more traceable. Nowadays, every collector would be wise to have some very identifiable items within his collection.

@jbuck you are correct. Even a dummy camera in a conspicuous place would deter most.
