HI Everyone!

I've been reading alot of post about people ordering halves from banks and I'm having a hard time doing that at my bank. Maybe they don't do this in NYC, I don't know?

Any tips or secrets? should I get the head teller some flowers? LOL

Thanks!

Vincent

In my experience the best thing you can do is develop a relationship and become recognized as a friendly customer. It's this personal relationship that will help "remind" tellers to go out of their way or maybe just do a little extra to help you out. As far as I can tell this just takes time. I am sure you have heard this before but I still hope this helps!

halves are getting harder and harder to get from banks because they just don't like handling them anymore and most of them are scared if they order you the halves they will end up back with them when you return them in for cash and they will be stuck with the coins again

i agree with jcook. I did the same thing at my bank. However if I could give you a little hint or advice, try going to the main branch first. If they don't have it, then the smaller branches won't either.

i just walked into the bank of america and politely asked to speak w/ someone about ordering halves. I mentioned that I would not bring them back to their branch, and they were happy to oblige.

The problem isn't that they don't have halves, it's that they are usually in the main vault. If your not a steady, well known customer, you'll usually hear we don't have any presently. Or something like that. If you are indeed in the NYC area, then you are like the people around here in Chicago. Way to busy to stop and go get you something not in the drawer. I attempt to go to the same 5 banks and attempt to go to the same tellers as much as possible. Also, I go at times when there is no or little lines of people. If there is a line, they don't know you, they will just say, none available right now. Basically true. Not readily available. Can't blame them. Why hold up a line for one person that wants some halves. Every time I go to any of these 5 places I get from 4 to 6 or more rolls of halves. They have to lock up the drawer, go to a main vault and if now allowed, find someone to go there. All this holds up customers in lines and if you are normal, in that line, you feel like shooting the person that holds up everything for a special request. So far I've never been refused rolls of halves but there have been many times I looked at the lines and was sorry I did ask for them.
Being a little old I don't like new bills that stick together so when getting currency from a bank I ask for old bills. If they don't have any, again they have to go find some from a head teller or even in the main vault. They will since I'm a rather steady customer. If you look around at people in a line that you created, you'll see a lot of irritations.
