I saw this day looking around on ebay for coins to buy for my set . These auctions why do they bid up so high. Its looks cheaper to buy an key date besides buying this junk. Most dealers will open up rolls to see what have before they sell it. Are these auctions againset ebay rules ? or are legal auctions. I was thinking these are low dollar coins wrapped in rolls just to rip an person off. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...WA:IT&ih=009 This auction sold for 177 dollars completed sale. It was 1909 Thur 1958 cent roll saying it could 1909 be s. v.d.b. coin. Real world price on 1909 v.d.b. coin and 49 common date wheat's is worth less than 5 to 10 bucks. This could be an 1909s or 1908s cent in auction roll like above. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...WA:IT&ih=015 Auction is still alive and don't know yet on this one. I dont buy these lots but I saw these on ebay and wanted ask about them. It dont look right to me. Chevrolet454ss

On the first auction, all you need to look at is the seller's USERID to get the real picture. He's right upfront about it. These auctions are for people with too much money and not much "cents".

Yep. What's worse is the fact that TWO people had to be incredibly stupid for it to bid that hight.

The second seller has awful feedback, all directed at misleading listing and junk coins in the rolls. If it seems to good to be true. it is. Stay clear. It should be against the rules to mislead people in the listings. Mike

Unfortunately it's nearly impossible to prove deliberate misleading. The only thing ebay can do (and perhaps should) is NOT allow people to claim lots are unsearched. I would venture to guess 99.999% of "unsearched" lots are searched.

Its sad those peaple bought those overpriced coins on ebay. Its looks like Classic ebay overpay at its worst. When I first saw them I amazed those biders would bid that high on rolls of coins like they did. I guess they bid them up like since to them its like an lottery ticket or gamble to score big time. I guess ebay cant do anything about those unsearched lots of coins like that. Its hard to say if they are unsearched or rolls taken apart and reglued back togethor using those keys like they did. The sad thing is buyers of those lots geting riped off like that on those auctions. Its looks like somebody should try to end those type auctions on ebay since end they are geting riped off big time without even knowing it intill its to late. Since ebay is geting strict on self slabbers with overgraded coins, fake items , or whatever. So why havent ebay made these auctions outlawed since they are rip off auctions? It got me for sure. Hi chevrolet454ss. Remember, coins in "shotgun" rolls usually mean nothing. You can buy the tool to make shotgun rolls. It in no way insures that they are "unreached" bank rolls. I also understand that shotgun rolls can be unrolled and re-rolled if you know how to do it without any special tools. Seller #2 had awful feedback as I stated earlier. Human nature and as you say the "lottery mentality" come into play in a lot of these auctions. Most of us have fallen for this sort of thing at one time or another. We live, and hopefully we learn!
