I wish the gold Kennedy half dollar had been that price, it would have made for a more tempting purchase.

Me too, but that one was 3/4 oz to make it the same size as a proper half dollar. Unfortunately it costs more now in the aftermarket than it originally did from the mint. I want one but I can' justify the expense right now. Most of the ebay listings are even higher than what APMEX is asking.

I would like to see a picture of an UNC Walker, the gold Walker, and the gold Kennedy side by side and stacked to get an idea of the thickness and diameter differences.

Quote: And we have a winner! The price was just set at $865. I still might get one, but that is a big premium

I think the price tag is going to keep a lot of people away, but you may be right, the shy buyers are waiting to pounce.

Got my 3 but the Mint site was slow responding at check out. I made the purchase at 12:01 and it took 6 minutes to check out.

I had some problems too. Got through most of it then got to the review where you have to check the box to accept terms and conditions and there was no box! At that point I had to re-enter payment info and usually it has some stuff already on file (won't say which part) and then it wasn't there. Got back to the invisible box and clicked on the area where it should have been and all around it and eventually it let me check out and gave me a receipt. Worst case, I'll get 3 instead of the 1 I want. The last two were just too easy! Karma.

Ordered mine. Site was very smooth unlike the last release when it was incredibly laggy and unresponsive. Can't wait to get the coin in hand to check out the detail under magnification.

These last few years I have allowed myself 1 coin "splurge" purchase a year.
In 2014 I bought a 1 oz 1908 no motto $20 Saint Gaudens In 2015 I bought the 1 oz. gold high relief Liberty coin. In 2016 I bought this 3 coin set.
Placed my order without any problems or delays at 1:17 pm
Order # USM046566XX
