Quote: The mint's price is greedy for the LWH dollar. $865 for half an ounce of gold when it is selling for less than $1200 an ounce. How do they justify that? They tack on a $500 premium. You buy three you pay an extra $1500 for gold. The premium is high for sure but not as high as you suggest. Current price ($865) is based on gold in the $1200 to $1250 range and should drop to $840 next week. Assuming you buy one next week for $840 and melt is $590 that's a $250 premium (it is a $500/ounce premium as you site). Buying three at $840 = $2520 while melt would be ~$1780, a $740 total premium. So yes the price is high and the mint is making a nice profit on these but they are a limited mintage collector coin, not bullion bars.

I just received my Gold Walking Liberty half. I am not impressed at the strike. I have Silver ones that look sharper. You would think that for the premium they are charging they could have dome a better job. They blew this one, Proof Issues would have been better. As for the Quarter, I need to keep my Blood Pressure down. Richard S.

Quote: How do they justify that? As has been proven in the, D.C. uses a different dictionary than us plebes. Any word having to do with the root of "just" was removed for convenience. I was hoping to hear that the mint corrected their sloppiness when they minted these Walkers. I know people were disappointed the Mercs were not FSB. I will have to see one of these halves in hand to know if I would ever want one. These commems being made smaller in diameter than the originals also have put me off of them. However, the design is beautiful enough though as it is that one day I might try to get one.

UPS delivered my gold half dollar today and I'm happy with my purchase, but I noticed something odd about the scheduled delivery email from UPS. Right at the top of the email from UPS it states: "You must be 21 years of age to sign for this package." Boy, that would suck if I were under 21, living on my own, and was anxiously awaiting delivery of this coin.

Now the mint needs to make a one ounce Morgan dollar in 2028 or a one ounce Peace dollar in 2021 or both. I'm not sure that I could afford them, but I'd love to see them. I missed my delivery on Friday so I will get my half tomorrow. I missed the dime and my budget is pretty much tapped out for now so I will have to wait and hope the price comes down if enough coins hit the marketplace.

The Mint should make the coins the correct size even if they have to add another metal besides gold. The LWH is .5 ounces of gold but if another metal was added to make the size the same as the original LWH it would be OK with me. Now I have spent over $1000 on this set and I don't even have the dime. That is a great photo of the set JRG and when I see them in that context I think it may be worth it. Making a gold Morgan and gold Peace dollar might work but now we are talking probably $1700 each. I agree with BH1964 that my math was off on the charge the mint makes off of us for these gold coins, but $865 for half ounce of gold is high. What does it cost the Mint to make these 1916 gold coins? What is the spread that we have to cover if we want the coins? I don't even have a real 1916 Merc or LSQ.
