No, don't give me any credit at all. I was just spoofing on those "I found this coin in my (your choice of relative here)'s (your location here). I thought it would be a little more entertaining and stimulating than "Hey look what I got!"

I actually purchased this coin from a reputable dealer today. I've been frantically scrambling to raise the cash to cover the check I wrote for it, and I think I'm going to just about make it. I was fortunate enough to meet the person from whom it came; a downstate physician who retired up around here. Between 20-30 years ago he spent some of his money (30-50K) on rare and not-so-rare coins. Most of them were purchased for him by a dealer since he did not have the time to buy his own coins. Some appreciated, some didn't, but overall he did pretty well.

This coin was by far the oldest in his collection. I am certain it is genuine, and I believe the cleaning occurred well before he took possession of the coin. The dealer and I agreed on a grade (VF details)...and we agreed on a price that is about the PCGS VG-10 value. With the cleaning, the rim nicks and the light scratches, I thought this was fair. There is simply no way I could come close to affording this grade of a coin problem-free. Ever.

I appreciate all of the comments and hope I haven't engendered any hard feelings with my feeble attempt at satire.

As for slabbing: if I ever think of selling it, I will probably zip it off to ANACS; until then it gets locked up tight, raw.

Nice coin. I have always wanted to get one for myself. (PS: I knew there was something up would your story, but it scared me for a while).

Great coin! It's always great to see raw finds like that out there...gives us all some encouragement to look harder for ungraded treasures! Congrats!
Rest in Peace

the one thing that picked me off that this had to be a joke is because HABIB isn't some new kid on the block and there was no way he didn't know what this coin was. Even when we do get the new kid coming here asking questions like his we usually determine they are fishing for information they already knew or are trying to peddle the coin to the highest offer. I had to check my calender before I posted the first remark though also to make sure I hadn't skipped a few months in bed or something

That joke was not fair to the forum. As punishment, that coin will be shipped to me where it will be kept in a non mocking, comedic, or toothpaste area for the rest of it's life. PM for my address. Thank you.
