Has anyone here received a dollar coin, (doesn't matter what type) in their change? I haven't seen any dollar coins in circulation except for the bank and my local coin shop.
What do you think abou this? -Ben

Once, about two weeks ago. That was the first time I've ever seen one and the cashier asked me if I wanted it (she had to ask since I guess people didn't want them when she gave them out in change).

Nope, but the way I spend them around here, I should have.

Ditto with banks and coin shops. They've got to be going somewhere.

I have put maybe 5-6 rolls of each in circulation but have yet to get one coin back in change. maybe it was a smart move to spend them and not hoard them lol seems every one else has them by the bag full in the closet somewhere so I don't see them going up in value at all. there will be a flood of them one day and everyone that has hoarded them will wish they had put that money in an interest bearing account instead. at least they would have made something on it lol Gary

I get them around here (Seattle area) from government agencies like the Washington Ferry system or when I go in and pay cash for permits and such at the county. At the governemnt office though they usually ask if I want them...

I have yet to receive any in my change, despite spending at least 2 rolls a week since they started. I don't even get them back from the places I frequent and spend them.

Very, very few.
It was obvious from the beginning that the coins would not circulate.
The paper $1 banknotes have to be discontinued first.
Of course they won't be for some time due to political reasons.

I might add that I'm doing my small part to get them to circulate.
I have $50 worth on my desktop, and am spending a few every day!
Just gave one to two of the grandkids, and since they already had one I told them to spend the ones I handed out today.

Last Wednesday night I walked my son to the train station and he put a $20 bill in the machine, bought an $11 ticket, and got back 9 $1 coins. They were a mix, Sacs, SBAs, and Presidents. I understand many of the transit systems use them for making change. We were in NY.
I gave him bills for the coins. When I was walking back to my hotel I stopped in a conveniance store for a bottle of water and found myself apologizing to the cashier for paying with dollar coins.

I needed to make a quick stop at a supermarket to get milk. Unfortunately I needed to wait behind a line of 2 costumers who had full carts rather than scan my one item in the self check out line. The reason being I only had golden dollars on hand and the machines don't take these dollar coins!

The last dollar coin I received in change was an Ike in the late '70. Now that was a coin. I have never received any other dollar coin, in spite of the billions or trillions of small size dollars made.
