Hello. I would like grades and opinions concerning this large cent. It is Sheldon variety 271 which is the "Comet" variety without the comet. Thank you.

I estimate the grade as G6/VG8.
The photo is quite good, but I find it difficult to assess the surface quality. How is it in-hand?

The photo is quite accurate. I've had this coin for over 20 years. It was bought for $20 in 1991. I was still in my late teens at the time and I thought it was fantastic. I've never upgraded it because it's "all there". The rims, the devices, the date all show well despite it's relatively low grade.

I like G-6. A very nice Large Cent! It's great to imagine what going on in the US when this coin was struck!

I would say VG-8

I came to that conclusion for two reasons:
1. The reverse fits a VG-8 grade almost to a tee.
2. I took into consideration that the 1807 S-271's were notorious for having a weakly struck bust.

Solid G6.
The rim bruises are not enough IMHO to warrant a details grade from that but, it does appear to have had a past cleaning.

I also have it at G6/VG8. However the surfaces appear to have corrosion. Enough to pull a details grade? Most likely
