Still looking for an answer, any help appreciated. As I look at it it seems that something about the size of a dime would fit in there. Just don't know enough as a newby.

It is hard to tell from the pics, but to me it looks like the damage you see from a coin roller when the coin was on the end of the roll.

I agree, damaged by coin rolling machine.

Keep looking. You are going to be wrong a lot before you get one right, but that is how we learn. Look at everything. Question everything.
