I think the United States Mint should do something like The Royal Canadian Mint and do those $20 for $20 coin programs and offer free shipping on them. Thoughts?

There are a bunch of people that don't like the 20 for 20's here... and they are very happy to speak up about it...

I on the other hand am quite satisfied with it..... If I ever have to cash in the coin I can take it to my local RBC and they will accept it at face value.... so you REALLY can't lose.. If ever the value of silver goes above and beyond the face value... it's instantaneous profit!

I personally felt that some of the coins are done well.. they have managed to capture some really nice scenes... such as the summer one with the person jumping off the dock... as well as the snow man throwing a snow ball..

For me personally I find you just can't lose...

Also being a coin collector they make fantastic cheap gifts.... celebrate a birth or birthday, or special event.. where you'd normally give a 10-20 dollar gift.. this makes it easy.. personalizes it as it's a coin (and they know you're a coin collector) and they can always simply get the cash for it if they want something else no worries! Win win win win win all around I say.

That is very interesting AgCoinAu. I didn't know you could redeem them at your RBC at face. That is pretty cool if you actually needed to. Do I correctly assume the free shipping is for Canada only? I'm just across the border in Michigan.

The no shipping thing with the coins being redeemable for face value won't happen again most likely. It would lead to tons of them sitting in government vaults.

People abused programs like that including the Presidential dollars program before they went nclt. You could buy them at face no shipping. It was a super easy way to make free money using credit card reward points to get frequent flyer miles. The mint paid a lot of shipping in the deal and the treasury got stuck with a lot of Presidential dollars then the economy didn't need. I'm not sure if that created any notable additional demand to mint more or not.

I know guys that were ordering $6,000 in credit cards a month on the dollars and then using that to pay off the credit card that month. That's like 72,000 new dollar coins just for one guy to dump every year.

Bertensgrad: I think there's some people in Canada that have done the same thing...

But I think the mint has put some ordering limits on it...

The Force: I actually do pick ups at a few banks asking if anything interesting comes in.. occasionally you get some really neat things... just last week a $50 for $50 was in the bank so with out hesitation I picked it up.. it was still in the hard airtite and soft coin flip that it gets shipped with..
