Hi,
A few days ago, I received an offer from the U.S. Commemorative Gallery (a private company not affiliated with the U.S. government) regarding a sheet of uncut $1 bills with the new Washington State Quarter design in place of George Washington's portrait. In the illustration everything looked legitimate except I noticed that all the serial numbers were the same, causing me to wonder about the authenticity of the bills. In the letter, is the following statement: "They are legal tender $1 bills. They could even be cut up and spent as regular $1 bills if needed...."
I did a search on the web, (bringing me here) but couldn't find anything on these so-called legal dollars using the State Quarter designs. Does anyone here know anything about them?

Thanks,
Rob

It's a scam buddy, no private company is allowed to print legal tendar money. Any legal tender money altered like that is obtained legally from mint, cannot be altered like they have and still be considered legal tender. If so, people wont take them either way. Plus money can't have the same seriel #.

Hi there, Sleaklight,

Yeah, I knew each (legal) bill had to have it's own serial #, so that's what made me wonder. I've done business with this company for many years with no reason to suspect them of any type of a scam. All the coins I've gotten from them have been legal tender, uncirculated & at a good price. Now after all this time, they're attempting a scam on me. Doesn't make sense to me, as that's a great way to lose a good customer. I plan on calling them Monday to see just what they have to say about these so-called legal tender notes of theirs. I'll post what they have to say....

Hello misterob and welcome to the forum!

If you are interested in purchasing an uncut sheet of $1 bills, may I suggest you check the link I have provided as it is the best source.

Hi biokemist6 and thanks for the welcome!

Actually, I'm really not interested in uncut bills, as I've had the opportunity in the past; it's just that the "Washington State" $1 bill offer fascinated me, and since I haven't heard any hype in the media about a new $1 bill design utilizing the State Quarter designs, I was curious just if they were, in fact, a legal bill.
Thanks for the tip, tho, I really appreciate it.

I called the company selling the "Washington State" $1 bills. Come to find out, these are real $1 bills from the U.S. Mint with a sticker over the portrait of Geo. Washington depicting the State Quarter design. Apparently, they have $1 bills with stickers for all the states that have come out with quarter designs. So if any of you get an ad like this in the mail, you know exactly what it is. Just another gimmick to get more $$ from unsuspecting folks! :o(

You can be assured I tossed that ad!
Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it.
