Hello everyone : )

I've found this really strange looking nickel. I have seen this effect on some other nickels but only on a small area of them; This texture covers the entire nickel on this 2006D. It is really difficult to capture the nice look the coin has when turned in the light. It does not look like it has been scratched. What is this an error or alteration? What causes this?

Thank you!

Altered. Looks like an acid dipped coin.

Looks more like a torched cent than acid.

My first thought was torched as well. (Looks like a tinfoil in a microwave ripple when it shrinks) Also could be acid I suppose although I've never torched or stuck one in acid so I didn't know. Thanks guys! :)
