I bought 2 of these from somewhere back in 97 or 98. The only info I have about them is what I scribbled on the paper I put in the flip with them. My note says they are each .04082 ounce of .999 gold. The diameter is 12 milimeters. I can also state that they haven't toned any since I got them. They're so small that when I trim the picture the detail in the eagle gets lost.

I don't know if they are actual coins, bullion reproductions, or just plain fakes. I could take them to the local scrap guy, but I know the first thing he will do is scratch them & apply acid to verify the gold content. Can anybody help me out with these?

Krause says:
0.9 fineness diameter 13mm wt 1.66g valued at BV+20% in UNC
During 1951-1972 a total of 4,590,493 pieces were restruck, most likely dated 1945. In 1996 matte restrikes were produced.

Have you measured and weighed the coin yet?

I slapped a ruler on one of these & it is 13mm. I have a scale but it's only accurate to within 1 gram, so no way to tell the weight.

Looks like a re-strike (the dies were used longer than with the originals and the restrikes tend to have more field lines).

The only way the coin can be 0.999 fine is if it were a forgery, but that is highly unlikely.

This particular coin is often used in a ring exposing the Mexican eagle to view.
