I have a friend who has 2 bags of SBAs. They are 100 count sealed bags. The bag/box says San Fransisco on it. She wants to put them up on ebay. Also, is there any chance that these may be proofs? Thanks,

They aren't proofs, those are never bagged. 100 piece bags? That's only 5 rolls. I don't recall any mint ever offering a bag that small. 1000 count was the SBA bag count AFAIR.

At any rate, a sealed *MINT* bag (which I don't believe these are) would rate around 20% over face.

I personally wouldn't buy the 100pc bags even at face, since shipping would eat more than any likely numismatic value.

All that said, put them on ebay with a reserve of the face value - someone will buy them.

Well, I know she said 100 in her msg. I think I'll email her this thread for her to see. Maybe we can even get her to join! Thanks,

I don't have the '99 mint catalog at hand but it's
possible they sold 100 coin bags of these.

The '99's, '79-P, '79-S, '80-P, and all the '81's
would bring a little larger premium. Each of the
'81's would sell for about 3 1/2 to 4 times face
value. There were some '81's sold in bags so these
might be it.

The other dates would sell for 120% of face but
would likely be a tough sell and it might be easier
to just take them to the bank. About 3% of the '79-S
coins are a variety that command a substantial pre-
mium. The '79-S. '80-P, '80-S, and '81-S were poor-
ly made and gems command a substantial premium.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I bought a few of these bags last year for $125 each. There really isn't much of a market for the SBA coins rolled or bagged. One decent option however is cherry picking through the bags. The SAB series are well known for errors, and small varieties that will command a decent premium.

If you really like the susan $1, You should be able to still get plenty at your local bank. The coin machine's at the post office, also offer these. If you can pick them up at face value. You can alway's spend them if you change your collecting taste later.
