That is what I needed:

Ranieri Zeno. 1253-1268 AD. AR grosso.
obv: Christ enthroned, facing front; IC-XC above.
rev: RA-CENO-SM-VENETI; Doge (L) receiving tall flag from St. Mark (R). DVX down flag staff.
20mm, 1.9g. 45th Doge of Venice.

Might be a contemporary counterfeit, the details are mushy but it may just be wear. Can't quite make up my mind about it.

XRF would settle the matter. Any specialist bullion dealer worth his salt should have a hand held instrument, for a quick surface metal analysis.
