I've never done it but I think you can get them at the post office. Can anyone substantiate that?

Thanks, but I have been there. But I was unsure if I would receive the roll by or on the date of release. I was wanting to stamp and post mark the roll to show they are first day release.

my second post was for Amazon, this one is to you arthrene. I actually just called my post office and I talked with what I wasn't sure was a guy or girl, and it indirectly called me stupid for even calling to ask such a question.

I know you can order boxes of nickels from the bank. I would assume this would be true for dimes too. I believe that pennies are shipped in huge bags, so you can't get those in rolls unless it's from the bank. quote: I actually just called my post office and I talked with what I wasn't sure was a guy or girl, and it indirectly called me a stupid for even calling to ask such a question.
Call them again and ask them if it's better to ship someone beard by the slice or the whole loaf.

With the president dollars, if you are lucky and your bank is participating, you can get rolls of dollars on they day they are released. (The banks have a four or five week time window that starts two or three weeks before the release date where they can order the president dollar and get unmixed rolls. Out side of that window they get whatever the Fed has on hand which may be mixed or unmixed rolls and the mixed rolls can have any of the small sized dollars.) A lot of banks participated in the Washington dollar distribution, but they then got a bunch of searched pieces back which they couldn't move, so many fewer participates in the Adams release. Even fewer with Jefferson, and I imagine it will be down even more for Madison. The State Quarters do have an official first day of issue, but usually only the banks in the state that is being honored do anything about it. All the rest of the banks pretty much get them whenever they get them. I do not believe they can specifically order specific State Quarters from the Fed although when a new state comes out the Fed does try to ship them out for orders for a couple weeks. None of the other denominations have official "first days of issue" and the Fed does not allow banks to order specific dates on their coin orders. The bank orders a denomination and they get whatever the Fed has on hand, and usually mixed first, then new on a First In First Out (FIFO)inventory/rotation basis.

For common type coins the best thing is to get to know someone that works in a bank and the bigger the bank, the better. Also, the better you know the person the better. If you could marry a bank president, vise-president, officer, etc from a bank, you could place orders for anything withing reason. It is truely amazing what you could get in coins with the right inside person. Many of the banks around me are always asking me if I want any of those silly baby dollars since they are stuck with many of them. all would be in rolls and brand new. I mentioned they should try selling them for $0.99 each. No sence of humor there.

What's the facination with getting a roll of coins on the "date it's released"? Is this just for your own curiosity or do you think there might be a numismatic premium for such a roll? A roll of new coins is a roll of new coins ..doesn't really matter which day you pick it up from the bank.
What denomination of coin are you interested in getting?

"Silly baby dollars" is also a term some people use for the Sac dollars because of the baby on them.
