These are some pics of a Peace dollar I picked up while in China a couple of weeks ago. It's a 1922-D and cost around $17 which is about the going rate for a VF-EF common date Peace dollar. What makes it special for me is that I bought it in China - to date it's my only Chinese Peace dollar. The weight and dimensions are correct, so I feel as comfortable that it is legit as with any I have bought here (LOL). It looks a lot better in hand than my poor photography implies (also it's in an airtite-I put everything in plastic). Enjoy!

It looks authentic. Not all US coins out of China are counterfeit, but there are a lot of them. I wouldn't have wanted to take a chance with a 1921, though!

Looks good to me. I wouldn't worry about it though. I suspect our government is already outsourcing our monitary system to either China or India anyway. Watch your money and if you see a lot of mispelled words, you'll know.

I have my suspicions. The second 2 seems malformed, the profile of Liberty seems oddly even more masculine than normal, especially the nose, the relief of the lettering seems unusually low even for a Peace dollar which is known for its low relief. Finally what's with the rays around the word DOLLAR. The seem weak and broken as the approach and leave the word. On real ones the rays are equally strong before, during, and after they pass behind the letters. That doesn't seem to be the case with this coin.

I won't say it IS a fake, but it just looks "off".

Looks OK to me to. It's probably the one they used to make the reverse cast for all the counterfeits.

Thing is though, why would anybody fake a 22-D and then sell it for $17, or, for that matter any price; the date is fairly common up to 65, I have one in that grade and I paid around $350 for it - I'm not saying that's pocket change, but it's no rarity. There are no rarities in the Peace dollar series, excepting "condition rarities", so I don't really see any margin in going to the trouble to make a fake coin, especially of this date.

But maybe there is a margin in it in China. I seem to recollect reading an ebay post about counterfeit U.S. coins from China, but I don't know anything else about it. And I agree that it doesn't look fake.
