Hello. I primarily collect US coins (being that I'm from the US) but I also pick up some CND coins here and there. I was wondering why I can't find the mint numbers for Canadian halves after the 30's? Even on this site there is simply no link to it. Nothing on Wikipedia either. Also does anyone know if a lot of CND coins have been melted down? Reason I started looking was because I just won an auction of 4 halves, 26 dimes, and 27 quarters. The seller claims all of the lot except 4 quarters are silver and the dates range from 28-68. Got them for $45 so I'm hoping to get something good to add to the collection!

Charleton has numbers for CND halves after 1930. That is a pretty good price for that many silver coins even if they are junk silver. Good deal.

As denny7000 says, either Charlton Canadian Coins or Coins of Canada catalogues have the mintage numbers. If you don't have access to one, just post what coin(s) you would like a mintage number for and someone on this site will help.
And yes, a lot of Canadian coins have been and are still being melted down. The mint is now recalling all coins prior to 2001 for recycling.
You did good on your purchase. There is probably over $100.00 just in silver bullion on your purchase.

We'll see when I get them. I'm a little concerned some of the 68 won't be silver as they claim. Didn't they switch the composition mid year? I can test with a magnet though.

Yes, around half of the 1968 quarters are 50% silver and the rest were nickel.

As promised here is my haul (I also posted this in the "Canadian coin purchase thread"). Turned out to be a great deal and will be a really good start to my CND collection. I think it makes up for me paying $11 each on some CND silver dollars the other day. I tested the 1968 dimes with a magnet and none of them stick. Only 1 of the 1968 quarters turned out to be nickel since it stuck to the magnet. Some of these aren't in the best condition but overall I still think it was a good purchase. Halves 1942 1943 1953 1957 Quarters (Silver) 1968 x 4 1964 x 1 1965 x 1 1952 x 4 1951 x 2 1950 x 1 1949 x 1 1944 x 2 1943 x 3 1939 x 1 1920 x 1 (date pretty much worn off) ? x 1 (cull but is a Georgivs so it has to be a bit older) Dimes (Silver) 1968 x 5 1967 x 4 (commerative?) 1966 x 1 1965 x 2 1964 x 2 1962 x 1 1951 x 2 1947 x 3 1946 x 1 1932 x 1 1931 x 1 (date almost rubbed off) 1928 x 1 1919 x 1 (date almost rubbed off) ? x 2 (dates gone but they are Georgivs so they are older) Non-Silver (all quarters) 1968 x 1 1969 x 2 1972 x 1 1974 x 1 28 x Pennies (ranging from 1944-1980)

Goode that you don't have TOO many 1968 coins. After all, an amazing deal! With the price of silver so low, you still get silver coins at an even lower price. The pennies are good for a date set. Regarding your Georgius quarter, it can be from anywhere between 1911 and 1936.
