I am still pretty new to the board but can anybody help me with what is the best way to get a closeup of a coin to add. I have a few interesting errors I would like to post but I am having a hard time finding the best way to get a clear picture.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Edited to move to the photography forum.

Hello

When I first started posting I was scanning all my coins
and getting everyone all in tithers :) I.E.: (Hey bonham your pics.
are way to small etc.:) Well, they were right. Some good tips on the camera and photo forum here. You can tweek your scanner or try dig. shots with the macro setting etc. I am still trying to get some nice close up shots and still experimenting. You can go the whole 9 yards
with special cam. lenses, stereoscopes with adaptors for the cam., etc. I tried something I read and scotch taped a 10X loupe to my 4mp
cam. lense and practiced shots. Want to try a 20X then a 30X loupe and see if it works even better.

Hi Dumprat. Was the last picture you posted a scan? The 1993 Cent? That's a pretty good image as far as size, but it lacks a little in detail. Bonham is correct in that the coin photography forum has a lot of good info. There are a lot of cameras out there that will do what you want without having to go overboard.

This photo is taken with my Olympus C5500 Sport Zoom on the super macro setting, with just a desk lamp for lighting. I bought the camera long before I thought about coin photography, so it's not like it's a dedicated rig. I am pleased with the results and I haven't spent the time to tweak yet. Just click on the picture for a little bigger sizing.....

My 1993 Penny post was from a scanner. I think I will try testing using my camera settings. I will also try looking at the photo forum.

Thanks for helping

Right now I am using a HP photosmart 735 3.2 MP camera

I just can't get a good picture with it.

I am trying to get a clear picture of an Uncirculated 1955 Dime Error

Does it have any kind of macro setting? Do you have the manual for it? Even without macro, a 3.2 should have enough strength/capability. Key thing is regardless of macro or not, get as close as you can and still have focus, use a tripod to eliminate shaking, and supply the best light you can directly above the coin. Pretty much as close to the lens as possible so they are both looking straight down at the coin. Then you should be able to crop everything unwanted out of the picture and re-size it.

OK, thanks.

I will try the settings, I might of just had it on the wrong setting. I have not used the camera a lot for things other than regular pictures.

Thanks again

Yup, according to this site, it has macro. Chances are the mode button on top will display a little flower looking icon. That is usually what the "macro" icon is. Hope that helps.
