Hello guys, I work for a coin dealer (Gary Adkins Associates inc.) and we're wondering if anyone here has ever seen a 1934-d buff nick with a double die obverse or re-punched date? there also appears to be a doubling of "LIBERTY" and possibly some signs of doubling on the nose and chin.

If anyone has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated, I'll get images of the nose and chin if there's interest.

UPDATE: Decided to search for an image of a average MS 1934-d buff, all credit for the two following images goes to Stacks Bowers (NGC MS64):

Looks like a vlds coin. PCGS would have recognized it as a DDO. I would say nice coin in that condition but not a double die.

Hello SilverStackerKid,

I'm afraid I don't know what a "vlds" coin is. I wouldn't be surprised if PCGS missed it when it was graded as it likely wasn't requested for them to look for a unknown variety, we handle a number of coins and have sent a good number back for missed graffiti etc. It is surprising that Albanese's guys missed it also when it got the CAC sticker, but there is something going on certainly across the bottom of "LIBERTY". I'll try to get some more pictures tomorrow of the chin and nose, It's tough to get the light to reflect off the correct surfaces.

Thank you for your interest, I would like to know what a "vlds" coin is.

Fuzzy317,

Thank you, seems pretty obvious now. The devices in the hair clearly show that this was struck at a late die state. Only sharing what immediately came to mind, a late die state would also suggest not that many would have been struck.

I also see a lot of MD. VLDS and MD can make it looked doubled but the damaged devices are shelf like, and not actually doubled.

Both coins show Machine Doubling (different areas and direction) There is also a lot of die wear around LIBERTY on the subject coin. I don't see evidence of a DDO.
