*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***I'm looking for a 1910 narrow (not wide) date. Here's a BU, graded by seller, really, really cheap. What do you all think? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1910-Canada...em46363bf432Jim Sabatke Mostly Canadian pennies.

First, I'm not familiar with Canadian coins.
What immediately caught my eye was the uneven spacing of the letters in ONE and CENT on the reverse. Then I saw the 99¢ start.
Doesn't look favorable to me.

Sandblasted....probably not, most likely dipped in acid or some harsh cleaning method. If you wouldn't mind having a problem coin for less than $1 plus $2.75 shipping then I say go for it. Let me add that I don't know much about Canadian currency.

The date is how it is on a 1910 canadian large cent.
But somebody touched this coin up A LOT. For $1.00 + shipping, go for it because it does have quite a bit of detail. But there's no way it would get graded professionally and I wouldn't go around telling people it is in natural state.
I have bought a few coins cleaned, as well as a lacquered because I loved the detail. But I didn't pay much for them

Hardly BU even if you just take wear into account. The grainy image could be the photo but the color scheme is definitely "weird".

Something is definitely strange about this coin.
Either the picture has been enhanced foolishly or the coin's surfaces have been tampered with.

Almost worth a bid, just to figure out how this coin was manipulated...

If it was a sand the beads would have to be microscopic. More likely a caustic. I'd be curious to see the Rim.

I can't tell you exactly if something is wrong, but I checked some of the seller's other items, and all seem to have been scrubbed with something.
If you still like the item and can get it cheap, go for it, but don't expect it to be worth more than you pay for it.

I'm not really interested in getting this coin, even for entertainment value. I am looking for a MS 1910 large cent and so this showed up in my search and I couldn't stop laughing. It wasn't even listed with the usual adjectives like "gem", "high grade", "rare in this quality" and others. I really think ebay should have requirements for some of these descriptions, but that's not going to happen. I was just totally shocked to see this one.

BU for sure---lighting angle shone light into lens---chip couldn't handle blazing glory of this AU/MS beaut.

I've seen a coin very similar and it was lightly cleaned (very low air pressure) in a glass bead blasting cabinet giving almost the exact same visual result here, I think that's what has been done to this one IMO.

Up to 8 bids now... I would bid on it, to learn something new, but with almost $6 shipping, plus the current price, it is not worth it...

After much thought, I realized I totally missed the obvious. This coin was used as an alignment target for the Large Hadron Collider where it attracted a surprisingly dense mass of Higg's bosons.

i think the effect is the pic as I believe I can see it on the countertop directly to the right of the coin and other places like above where the glare is,(not in focus mind you)
