I tried to fix your picture to make it a little bigger and to show the details a little better (didn't work very well but the best I could do)

I know nothing about DD ears, but if I did, I'd probably say that this was one.

I've seen that before on Cents. I believe it to be Machine Doubling. Check on the other letters/numbers on both sides and see if you can see Machine Doubling on either side. That is what it looks like to me. Not just the lobe shows it, but behind the ear as well.

It is a form of Mechanical Doubling. I see it all the time.
