Found this in my pocket change, 1998-D Extra ear. Anyone have any information on it? Is it a real DDO? Or is it just another die crack playing tricks on my eyes? Whatcha think? Here is a photo, one as pictured and one enhanced.

I suspect a crack in the die but back up a little and get a shot that shows a little more of the head then post those pics. I still strongly suspect die cracks as I've seen some very similar but the shape has me intrigued a little.

Thanks,
Bill

I also have seen that crack on the 98D cent. but it is a crack and not an ear. too bad though. if it was an ear I would have kept them and I would be rich lol.

It does not look like the cracks that I usually keep. It looks, instead like there could have been a strike-thru, or maybe a lamination. It is too "uniform", if you will to be just a crack. Not that all the cracks are 'uniform"! Some are just nicer than others.....

Its a die crack/chip/break. Somewhere in that range. The die has failed and you can see this especially on 2006 Cents as they are probably known to be one year that the dies failed the most. Sometimes die breaks get so deep into the die that they stand higher than the devices. Here is one that I've imaged. It is the T on a Wheat cent. It looks like the big rock in Australia. LOL
