If you are using a USB hub you might want to try installing the software with the microscope plugged into the computer's USB port directly (not going through the hub).

Hi again. I didn't use a USB hub so that can't be the problem. Everything up to the microscope mode work's! The sound, trash can,and a green light is on in the top of the microscope. The ? mark button talk's to you, but of coarse it doesn't say anything about usb cable.
I have one of my penny's on the work screen, but that's were it end's.
Discusted, waited two week's to get it, for nothing!! Guess I'll go out and rack leaves, don't need a computer for that

Two things I would do at this point:

1) make sure the patch level of my OS is current - download all the required and recommended patches from Microsoft for your version of windows and install them

2) go to the microscope manufacturer's web site and download the latest version of the microscope software, then try installing that on the fully patched OS.

I don't have this microscope, so I am just saying what I would do for installing software for any new peripheral - scanner, camera, whatever. Hope this helps.

I googled "digital blue qx5 problems" and found a couple support forums that looked they could help. Found this on one.

My Qx5 Microscope is plugged into the USB and has installed the software, but no matter which USB port I plug it into it will not respond. The light activate, the image will not show, and when I try to make any movies or take any photos, a message comes up saying
"The microscope is not responding. Make sure your microscope is connected. If you are still having problems, try restarting the application or rebooting your computer.(61)", and despite that I've tried what the message says, it won't work and the instruction manuel diddn't have any solution on the parent quickstart side.

the microscope may be trying to draw too much current from your USB ports, your computer will disable the device if it does this.

When this happens one of the easiest (and cheapest) solutions is to acquire a Powered USB Hub (with it's own Plug top power supply).

my QX-5 is hooked directly to my USB port and have never had a problem like this, does the green light on the QX-5 come on or does the lights that would shine on the thing on the tray come on when you start the software? or does it do nothing at all? I would check in device manager to see if there is some kind of conflict in there

moonshine .. did I miss this,?. or are you installing the microscope's software Before and while it remains unpluged? In short software must be installed before 'scope' gets plugged in..maybe uninstall (full)the a 'fresh' install. leaving the 'scope' Unplugged shut off your computer give it 10 or more seconds .. plug in USB from 'scope' into a computer USB port.. then turn on your computer.this may help...

another thing to think about is how old your pc is, is it new enough to have usb 2.0 or is it a old 1.1 usb ports? if its the old 1.1 that could be a issue.

I am looking at the QX5, is that all that is needed? Can you put an arrow towards the error of a coin with the software that comes with it?
