Bill.
In 1957 I see there is a variety called the bug tail type , can this coin be found in roll searching Canadian nickels and is it common to find one ? And to have a complete set would you need this and the regular 1957 ?

Thanks Bruce.

That's a good question. It's not shown in Charlton but there is a price for it in CCN trends. Also there is no place for it in my Guardmaster album.I think I bid on one on E-bay once but didn't get it.I really don't feel that I need one to complete my collection but that's just me. On one hand the fact that it is not as well known as,say, the 1964 "extra water line" might make it easier to find in change but on the other hand nickels from the 50's don't show up very often any more.

I have yet to find a 1957 bugtail or a 1964 XWL in probably $3000 worth of nickels so far, if that helps. It's actually quite rare to find anything older than the early 60s in circulation anymore as it is. I don't believe a 1957 bugtail is needed to have a complete set. There is also a 2001 bugtail for those of you hunting the varieties.

I have found a few bug tails searching rolls. The "bug" is nothing more than a die chip at the end of the beavers tail, much like the 1946 arrow head in 6 "variety".

There is also a 1977 high and low last 7, 1996 near and far 6, so I don't know if all of these are required to complete a set.

My Gardmaster album only has a spot for the 1964XWL and 1947(dot) and 1947ML. However, it doesn't have spots for all of the "P" mintmark nickels from 2000-present, so take that with a grain of salt.
