Does anyone know what year range this coin was produced? The year is not visible but it seems to be a 5 centimes like shown http://www.napoleonicmedals.org/coins/franl51.htm Do I dare risk cleaning it to try and find out the year?
These coins were issued from L'An 5 (1794) up to L'An 9 (1800-01) from over a dozen mints. Unfortunately, neither the mintmark (it looks most like an A for Paris) nor the year are visible in that picture, although I can tell that it is indeed a 5 centimes, and the reverse pic is upside down.

The same female figure that's appeared on most coins of Repubulican France: Marianne, personification of Liberty and Reason, the "French equivalent" of Liberty who appears on American coins.
