Harmonica, thanks for the note. I appreciate your spending time with my writings. I'm Canadian, just happen to live in the U.S. I grew up in Peterborough, lived in Brockville and still have a cottage north of Kingston. :) I am a big believer in building a quality reference library of numismatic materials. Buy the books, read the articles, join the RCNA, ANA, EAC (if you like copper) and whatever local clubs are in your area. Learn and share. You will be deeply rewarded.

When I lived in BC I would have quite a few dealers ask why I collected NFLD coins. Was I from NFLD? Even though I wasn't I was always attracted to them simply because it's a closed set of coins and I can actually see myself getting one of every coin in my life time! Maybe not with all these new varieties anymore though!

Is there anything in the book regarding the identification of counterfeit coins? I am a new collector and this would be of great help to me. Thanks

Yep, I agree. The book doesn't go over counterfeit coins.

If I ever get some spare cash I will gladly pick up a copy off this book. My Newfoundland collection is slowly growing.

I found my copy in the mail today.... popped in the DVD and starting skimming through the 475 pages... loved what I saw... and I'm excited to go through my collection to really look for the varieties.
My first impression is as follows:
The reading level is very simple (well simple enough that a knucklehead like me can fully understand the descriptions) I found the descriptions easy to understand with each topic that was being discussed.
The only confusing part for me was exactly how they derrived the population reports for each of the varieties... however as I said earlier I only scanned it.. so the information may have been condensed and mathematical details like that ... well for me at least require a bit of time to go over and digest.
The pictures are VERY good and the coins are quite attractive. There are some really nicely toned coins there so it's very pleasant to look at the pictures and determine the variety.
I personally would say that I'm still very green as a coin collector and I thought this DVD was a great addition to my reading resources and will create a higher level of enthusiasm when coming across newfie coins.

Glad to hear you liked it! As for the population reports.... Well... when you see something like the 1945 5 cent coin, that has 2400 Type I coins and 21 Type II that means Barry has personally examined 2421 1945 5 cent coins!
So all the totals for population reports are how many he has examined.

I recently received my copy. I applaud the author for taking this initiative. After thumbing through it, the layout and style the varieties are presented reminded me of Jack Griffin's style...

Was able to login to ebay and order the CD; am really looking forward to receiving it. I'm most grateful to SPP-Ottawa for the reference. I have a few varieties which I did not know about, specifically: https://goccf.com/t/243925And a few others which I had submitted to the old CONE group. I'm sure they are in your book.

I like it.. and from this thread it seems there's a lot of people that like the newfie material... I think this weekend if I have a bit of time I might go through some of my stuff and if I find anything interesting I'll post it up here too!
