I've been keeping a set of gem late-year wheat cents in a Dansco album for about 8 years now. Are there any concerns about using these albums for long-term storage of such coins? Am I putting the original luster at risk? I've heard warnings about storing certain coins in Whitman binders for the long-term, but I don't know to what extent it applies to Dansco products. Any info on this subject would be appreciated.

My opinion, but I don't like any of the albums for long term coin storage. My choice is airtite containers.

The albums are fine if the albums themselves are stored properly ,, just keep in mind anything that affects the album affects the coins inside . Humidity ,temperature extremes ,dust ,dirt ,and gasses from other paper ,card board and or chemicals which maybe present in the storage location .
My personal preference is airtites .

Dansco will be fine 20 years from now, just store them properly as rick says.

Fine is a relative term. LOL Some of the coins will most certainly tone in that Dansco no matter how you store it IMO. If you don't mind that, it's "fine". Personally, I don't want my coins to tone or change in anyway that's why I like airtites. However, I certainly don't have all my coins in airtites because of cost. Make sure you put that whole album in one of those giant Ziplock bags with a dessicant pack. That should really help protect them and slow down the toning.

While albums are definitely better than folders, I would recommend Intercept Shields for long-term storage or display. While the albums are nice, they are not airtight, so you will end up with toning eventually. Some people prefer toning, but if you want to keep that bright red luster, please consider going to holders that have a better seal.

The ones with the plastic that slides over the coin can scratch the high details of the coins if moved often. Also you need to check to make sure that the plastic is exactly over the coins. Sometimes the alignment is not correct and coins can be exposed to the air, which in turn leads to coloring your coins. (Toning or tuning the coin from red to brown.)
