A coin for cooper.... Hmmm... could that be for me? Let me guess to see if it fits your coin. Sometimes people take sandpaper to the rim on a Cent. The rim and edge are sanded off and it leaves a gray zinc ring on the border of the Cent. Sometimes stuff get poured/accidentally or on purpose and can remove some of the plating or burn areas to make a change. These are after market errors and only the untrained will get stuck with them and seller runs away with the money flushed away by this transaction. So spend time reading/chatting/posting. It will be one of the best investments in your life on future coin purchases.

Oh, I know what your taking about. when a Copper/zinc cent gets scratched if leaves a rainbow color where the damage is. The copper color is not affected, but were the plating was moved/scratched the rainbow color appears. See that a lot now that you mention it.
