I am thinking of bidding on this coin, but wanted to see what everyone thinks it might grade out at. For the record, my issues with this coin are 1) the big half dome mark above the bonnet on the obverse, 2) the edge between 3:00 and 6:00 look a little rough on the obverse, 3) some scratches on the reverse, but not too bad; 4) top half of upper part of the reverse looks a little rough as well.

The breast feathers are pretty strong on this one,

I'm thinking it would be ms62 because of the big mark on the front. Otherwise maybe a ms63 without it.

I think because it looks cleaned that I would definitely discount the price for that, as well as the other issues you mentioned and I personally would not pay MS money for it.

What areas look cleaned to you? I'd like to learn how to spot cleaned better.

I'm not sure whether the coin in question has been cleaned, but I wouldn't pay an MS price for it either..... it just has that circulated look to it, but it may just be just the pictures, also.

It just doesn't look as "crisp" or have the detail that I would expect in a MS gold coin. I'm no expert, but here are pics of a nicer 2 1/2 Indian which I haven't had graded yet, but is definatly AU or better....

See what I mean about the missing detail on your coin?

I re-read the auction and the seller stated that the coin may have been cleaned. I missed that one! So, this coin is out for me. Thanks for both your replies. :)

As to how you know whether a coin in a picture is cleaned--in many cases you can't know for absolute certain; however, when a (gold) coin appears 'sharper' than its details indicate it should, I veer away since someone probably thought it would look better with a harmless little 'wipedown.'

Hope that's vague enough for you.

Personally, I wouldn't pay more for this coin, than the spot price of gold.
