Hello everyone,I came across this penny and was wondering if anyone could give me any reason or information as to why or even who would have signed it?
Has anyone came across a penny or coin similar?
I cannot quite make the name out but looking at the date I was thinking is it possible to have anything to do with the war time era or soldier? I dont know.
Any information would be great.

it is signed because someone (H, John Fincklestein, perhaps) wrote his name and date on it for reasons of his own.

It is a damaged coin, no more.

Typical graffiti. Post mint damage, the coins value is now 1 cent.

Thank you all,the history of it I am after really and not the value,I just thought it was interesting as I heard that soldier's/pilots used to inscribe their names onto coins during the war time,if that were true then the coin would be a great story for my children/grand children when they look at my collection.
Apreciate the response,thankyou all.

I'll assume you found this in the UK. The coin when it was engraved was what would have been found in circulation at the time, and doesn't appear to have circulated after the signature. It seems like it was engraved by an American in or headed to the UK, so it probably was a soldier/airman/naval recruit.
