one of the 2015 US Mint Proof Sets I just received. The first one I opened (I ordered 5 sets) has two Kennedy dollars in it. Just wondering if this is considered an error, or can these plastic holders be easily opened and manipulated? Thank you in advance!

If you bought them straight from int, it must be an error. How odd! They can be manipulated, and so don't think it is worth anymore than a normal set. Definitely unique though! I'd recommend sending a pic to mint if you want a replacement.
I'll be curious to see if any others have experienced this, and also if it would through off the mintage numbers at all...

Thanks, gshobar. It is odd. I was hoping it was rare, but since you confirmed the plastic cases can be manipulated, I'll just put it away with all the other stuff I hoard :)

Truthfully, you could probably make a decent profit on ebay if it's a legitimate packaging error. I personally wouldn't pay any extra as the coins themselves are fine, but there are certainly those who would. If it has been tampered with, it is worth less than a regular set since the coins have been exposed since leaving the mint.

Thanks, Finn235. I think I'll just pack away with a post it note on it so I don't forget. I appreciate the reply.

The lens will open and close very easily. You could open them and move coins around all you want, within and between sets. If you sold it on ebay, there would be no way for you to prove that it happened at the mint since you have already opened the shipping box.

I got one of those in 2007, it had two Washingtons in it. I returned it, they sent me a new one. Mistakes in packaging are not errors.

Look at the bright side. At least there are 4 coins in there. Just imagine if there was an empty hole in the set.

Based on the sets that I received, I'm thinking that the mint doesn't visually QC the proof sets. This pretty much confirms it. You'd think for how much they cost a quick visual inspection would be in order.

What should have been in the second Kennedy hole?
