I am hoping someone might be able to help me with this token. It is supposed to be brass but it is a distinctly different colour than any I have seen.

Have I identified it incorrectly, was it struck in different metals or can brass age like this?

Short answer is yes depending on the alloy used it can vary in hue and tone and color. Add int that what ever materials it picked up as a surface coating and what was in the atmosphere. it is probably some alloy of brass and there are hunderds of blends.

A few of the earlier tokens were struck in more than one medal
