If it will give you any idea, I just walked away from the Flyers game in the mancave in my basement to look at this one on the big monitor. Yes, you got beat. I don't even need to know the grade. It's barely circulated. How does a Seated coin circulate to AU50 when the sharpest edges of the shields and lines betray nothing? Flat leg and Full Hair? Didn't think so. Look for how a Seated coin strike flattens with this one. It's a teaching coin. It's closer to AU58 in my mind than anything else, although I wouldn't argue AU55 from somebody who held it in their hand and that's what I'm giving it.

I actually had to look at it for a while. First, to get past the ridiculous eye appeal, and second to try and figure out why the wear details didn't add up in my mind. What it boiled down to was, everywhere you see wear on this coin is also the same places where a weak strike manifests.
That, of course, is also correctly where you'd expect wear to first be visible. So it becomes a game of seeing if the level of "wear" on those high areas is matched by wear which ought to be visible in other areas by that stage of circulation.
The math doesn't work here. By the time it's AU50 I want to see the shield begin involvement, even if only a dulling of the edges. The eagle's neck and right wingtip should be blurring a little. In fact, I'm minded of a fresh reverse mated to an older obverse.
Of course, the other possibility is that I'm completely wrong and this is a legit AU50.

The reverse is pristine but the obverse shows quite a bit of wear. I could see AU-53 for this one but I'll say AU-50 to be safe.

Lets just say hand in face moment...would have been fine with any AU as long as it was problem free.....cleaned....really...was thinking 55 when I sent it in but again would have been happy with 50 or above, as long as problem free. Going to be looking at details slabs from ANACS much closer from now on. Will buy these all day long. Did I mention this coin has some pretty decent luster left....grrrr still upset about this one

I would agree with AU-53 but don't see the cleaning issue. There is a lot of chatter but the marks and abrasions are not lined up as I would expect from an abrasive cleaning. If I owned this piece I'd be very tempted to crack it out and submit to PCGS for a decent chance at a problem-free grade.
