AU55/53 BN split net graded. I think it's really close to a nice uncirculated coin, I also think the color looks fine.

I will expand on my thoughts as to why I see this as a cleaned and recolored LC. First off let me say that this is a nice LC! But here are my reasons why I see it this way. Usually an LC in AU+ or above will exhibit some luster, this coin doesn't as it appears in this photo on my screen. The field looks somewhat dull. Also if you look at the face closely there are darker lines that look somewhat like small veins which I assume are small scratches that the coloring agent has adhered to and appear darker than the over all face does. Also if you notice around the stars and wreath and lettering, these areas are considered somewhat protected by the devices and should be a lighter color or exhibit some original luster on an AU+ LC. On this coin these areas appear darker and dull. Also the nicks on the face and around the eye and also in the obverse field area appear dull and somewhat smoothed by wear. The crevices in the wreath and leaves on the wreath also appear to have gunk in them. With this being said by me I could be wrong as this is a photo and I don't have this coin in my hand

You may well be correct 1893S. I must agree that the colour on this coin (the photo reflects the true colour) does seem a little unusual to me as well, and it does not match the degree of wear on the coin.

Sometime when I am feeling more adventurous I will briefly dip this coin in acetone. It will not harm the coin otherwise. If it has been recoloured, it will then become evident. Thank you for your open opinions and comment!

I actually agree with 1893S' s assessment. Not that I wouldn't love to have this coin, and by no means am I an expert, but the coin looks a bit odd to me. The color is too flat and uniform. The color is also wrong. This is not R or B or a mixture of both. Copper can tone in strange ways, but the color of this is more like orange/rust.
