another challenging picture for you celtic. Little bit out of focus but from the date position it looks to be an N-8,21 or 33. Reverse does not have any noticeable die cracks to help ID the variety. Maybe more noticeable in hand. Looks F-15 or so? http://www.ebay.com/itm/14159382479...RK:MEBIDX:IT

You know how to pick 'em Jerry. In my opinion this is an N-33 which is an R.5. I first thought it was an N-21 but the C and E in CENT aren't joined at the top. Here's a link for comparison.

I'll go with F-12, 15 may be a stretch.
1848 N-33 R.5 12/12.

well for 11 bucks or so I thought it was a decent gamble. The die cracks are much more obvious on the goldberg coin. Thanks for the attribution eval Celtic! Might send this one off to Bob Grellman at some point to see if he agrees.

Wait till you get it in hand to see the cracks. Even though die cracks are hard to see in any grade lower than VF-30 they might still be visible. Those are some pretty heavy cracks. Newcomb says that this is a resurrected reverse die from 1847 N-27.

Nice pickup Jerry. I'll stretch it to F15.
