I was at a coin show today and picked up a 200th Anniversary of the Us capital UNC clad half dollar in a little folder type of "set". It was only $5 so I picked it up. I didn't realize they issued this so I looked for others and found one for the 1993 Bill of Rights half dollar and another for the 1993 WWII half dollar. Kind of interested as to what years they did this with the commemorative clad halves. What years did they do this? Any site that has a list of the ones produced?

(I know about the young collectors sets that have kind of cartoonish packaging, which is great for young collectors but I am not referring to those)

By the way this is just like the one I picked up today:

Thanks for any help!

I see some sets in the Red Book (and mine is from 3 years ago), but I don't think they list all of these types of sets. I looked up the 2001 capitol visitors center half dollar and they list the regular clad coin (which is just in the typical mint box), the proof coin, and the 3-coin set (which was the proof clad half, silver dollar, and gold $5). But I don't see the folder/set that I referred to in my first post anywhere in the Red Book or CDN.

I do see the Victory set/victory medal set listed for the 1993 WWII half and the 1993 Bill of rights educational set which are housed in a similar folder types of sets but why don't they list the 2001 capitol folder in there?

The US Mint has produced a number of "folder" sets besides the Young Collector sets over the years; some include half dollars, others feature a silver dollar.

Here's a list:

1. 1993 James Madison/Bill of Right Coins and Medal Set (includes silver uncirculated half dollar)
2. 1993 James Madison/Bill of Right Coins and Stamp Set (includes proof silver half dollar)
3. (1991-1995) World War II Coin and Medal Set (includes uncirculated clad half dollar)
4. 1994 US Capitol - Architectural History Set (includes proof silver dollar)
5. 2001 US Capitol Visitors Center Set (includes uncirculated clad half dollar)
6. 2007 Little Rock Coin and Medal Set (includes uncirculated silver dollar)
7. 2008 Bald Eagle Coin and Medal Set (includes uncirculated silver dollar)

Each of the 1995-1996 Atlanta Olympic uncirculated silver dollars were also sold in a folder-type package; they are 4" x 7" vs. the approximately 6" x 6" size of the folder sets listed above.

In addition, there have been several Coin & Chronicle sets (e.g., Benjamin Franklin, Chief Justice Marshall), Coin & Currency sets (e.g., American Buffalo, Lewis & Clark, Botanic Garden) and other special package sets (e.g., Star-Spangled Banner, Five-Star Generals, Lewis & Clark Pouch).

If you like "special sets" - the US Mint has produced a number for its commemorative coins over the years!

spaceace, I had to go look for myself.

You are right... I was wrong. I don't see the set
from your beginning post, in the Red Book.

I wonder if maybe that set was sold through the Capital
gift shop, and not through U.S. mint normal sales.

Thanks for the replies! That list was very helpful commems. I was aware of the coin & chronicles and coin & currency sets along with some other sets (prestige set etc..), but some of those other 7 you listed slipped through the cracks for me. I have numerous modern commemorative halves and I like having folder or set like these instead of just the original box or coin capsule to look at. some are kind of trivial but I wanted to see what was out there that I missed out on.

GR58, that is what made it so curious to me. I figured since they were official US Mint products they would be listed in the Red Book or CDN or something. Basically I wanted to know what other sets like this could I have overlooked. It seems like most of the other above mentioned sets are in the Red Book so I am not sure what the deal is. Like you suggested maybe it was an official product that was only sold at a certain venue or something.

I have broken open a lot of sets over the years, not really sure
if I have on the U.S. capital one like posted.

I think I will have to start putting some away ... And not break
them open.

One's I have been looking for are the 96 Olympics young collectors.
Sets like those every once in a while can be found very cheap.

I also like the Lewis and Clark, coin and pouch. I keep passing
on it when I do see one .... Will get one someday.

I feel lasts years Sac special has renewed my interest in them.

In case anyone was wondering...

The 2001 Capitol Visitors set was originally sold by the US Mint for $16.50 (pre-issue price) or $17.50 regular price. It could be ordered directly from the Mint.

The gold, silver and clad coins of the issue were avaialble in a variety of packaging options - 14 in total! In addition to the folder, the half dollar was also available sealed in mylar (rather than a capsule) and inserted into a colorful letter-size envelope printed with images of the original Capitol building that are very similar to what is seen on the folder.
