I have seen a few mint assisted errors but honestly, I don't understand why they command such a high premium. They are "errors" but they are not REAL actual errors. I know I would not buy one. Would you? I just don't understand.

MInt assisted is where people/workers at the mint produce a coin that was not meant to be made. FOr example the qaurter die sac dollar. That was mint assisted, workers at the mint purposely put the quarter dies on.

Haha if only they would only be fired. They get criminally prosecuted big time federally. I'm sure they will be able to plea it down but they will have a permanent mark on their record, a huge fine, and possibly a lengthy jail sentence.

Philly is a mess in general Mint included. Mint workers are unhappy, air is dirty in Philly, people are hard in general. Fuuny why the Big money haha, they are great Errors made by the Mint workers haha. Haha o man,$4,000 means nothing on ebay. I have seen 1 cent large date 1970 S sell every week or more to at least 1 time a month for over $20 on ebay for 5-6 years now. I have call them told them. ebay could care less. I think a class action suit should be place on ebay and Error Coins. Thing is if I say I have a potato chip for $10,000 that is rare it is fine to sell it.

I don't think it's ever been proven that the quarter/sac mule was ever an intentional error....how many errors are actually mint assisted? Many in technical terms

Mint-assisted errors, like mint-assisted issues go for large premiums since they're (usually) very rare. Take an example of each and think about it for a minute... Mint-assisted issue (most probably): 1913 Liberty Head Nickel (5 known) Mint-assisted error (most probably): Gold Indian Head CentsI myself, if I had the luck of going back in time and inventing (and patenting) the Internet first, would buy every one of those two examples as I could get my hands on. Especially a gold cent. They might not be "real honest-to-god" errors, but they're still rare and unusual items. And so long as no one can prove that they weren't real and entered the public via normal channels, the US mint can do nothing about it (in theory and in practice). The question of the quarter-Sac dollar above, although I'm not sure if the accused were convicted, even if they were, there's no way of determining whether one of the coins was ill-obtained or one of the ones found in rolls. The owners of the coins may or may not know themselves, but if they do...you can be certain they'll never divulge.

Yup true and with quarter/sac mule the mint did issue a press release back then stating it was a genuine error and they had proved the die was wore out and when the employee went in the vault to change it he grabbed the wrong die-couple thousand were minted by time they caught it and they went through all the bins to collect them all and melt them down but obviously didn't get em all

Can you imagine, an error hunter like ourselves finding such a coin.... instant heart attack. Just like finding out you won the lottery.

I don't see any of that when I walk out my door each day.

I've been to philly, it's a lot like most other major cities, it has it's good areas and bad. generally speaking, the older the city, the more run down neighborhoods where the riffraff congregate. I'm not saying all that live in a rundown neighborhood are riffraff, I am generally speaking. there are no potholes on the mayor's street. I don't know where the mint is though. I am presently re-thinking my position on mint assisted error coins, as I am partial to large sums of money. lol
