Is this coin a "keeper"? Some foreign matter is minted into the coin, partially obscuring its date. Please tell me, or give a link which tells, the background and popularity of this type of mint error. Thank you.

By the way, for what it's worth, the nearly horizontal line extending from Lincoln's bow-tie, over the date and terminating at the coin's rim is a very faint raised crack.

That looks like a linear plating bubble. (gas under the plating)

Sounding reasonable, yours is likely a better explanation. There are very small openings along the line, dispersed like a skipping stone might travel. They are tiny cracks opposed to any kind of blow-out -- if that is a relevant factor.

linear plating bubbles above the date with damage on the date itself

Is this error one that increases the coins value, or perhaps one that guarantees it will never exceed its face value?
