Does anyone know the material composition for goloid? It's used for Pattern Proof Crown, July 2001 Pattern Auction.

Thanks

The patented goloid alloy is:

(by weight)

1 part gold
24 parts silver
2.5 parts copper

Patent #191,146 by W.H. Hubbard (1877) states that "the proportions may vary slightly".

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply, Steve. One guy told me goloid is also used by U.S Mint for material test nowadays. Is that right?

I don't know if the US Mint uses goloid today as a test material.

I do know that goloid was used by the US Mint in the 1870s and 1880s
to strike pattern dollars (sometimes referred to as "metric dollars").
